Where should I go shopping?

Everywhere you walk in Hong Kong, there are shops all over. You can virtually buy anything in every particular area, it is very convenient. But as a visitor, your goal is to go to all the best places to shop and have the best selection available is choose from. But often times where you should go depends on what you want to buy. I want to note that where ever you go, there is always close by one of these clothing chain stores: G2000, Giordano, U2, Bossini, Crocodile, and Apple. As for mysel f, I have my favorite shopping spots and I will describe the major ones in this section.

On Hong Kong Island, my favorite shopping area is Causeway Bay. There is just simply so much selection there. This is a great place to buy clothes because there are many large department stores here. Take a look at the map:

The first place to visit in Causeway Bay is Times Square, this is a large indoor mall with many specialty shops without any large department stores inside. The name Times Square probably came from the Times Square in New York; but they are not sim ilar at all, except maybe for the jumbo outdoor television found in both places. Within Times Square are many restaurants, located near the top floors. I have gone to a few restaurants there, and the food is pretty good, the variety is good, but the pri ce is above average. If you are short on cash and hungry while in Times Square, there is a Mc Donalds on the first sub-level. The extra value meals are even more of a value than here in the United States; costing only $17 HKD which is around $2 USD!!! All of Causeway Bay and it's many shopping centers and department stores and easily accessible by the local MTR stations.

The next place I will check out are the Japanese department stores which include:

  1. Sogo
  2. Mitsukoshi
  3. Matsuzakaya
  4. Dimaru
Just following the map and or if you get lost, go into a MTR station and look for signs that can direct you there. After these Japanese department stores are also the many little restaurants, book stores, and specialty shops on the streets. You might be able to find a good deal there. Another large mall in the area include the World Trade Center (name also from New York); if you like arcade games, there is a pretty good one on the top floor of the World Trade Center. Shopping in Causeway Bay can take up your entire day so plan accordingly.

My other favorite place to shop on Hong Kong Island is in the Central / Admiralty area. There are many malls within this area but I will mention the 3 that I enjoy going to the most. Within Admiralty, I enjoy going to Pacific Place, a large modern indoor mall. I particularly enjoy going to Seibu, a large Japanese department store chain found in a few areas in Hong Kong. There are many things to see there, things that you don't normally find in other places. There is also a f ood court area within Seibu where they serve all sorts of Japanese food at reasonable prices. I really like going to eat there during lunch. There is also a United Artists Theater in Pacific Place. It shows many new American movies, an movie ticket sho uld cost around $60 HKD.

The Landmark and Prince's Building are also great shopping places. They offer exotic and high class items such as jewelry, clothing, etc.. for sale. This is a great place to look for brand name items. Many of which I haven't even heard of before. Be sure to bring your Gold or Platinum Visa / Mastercard with you.

On the Kowloon side, I enjoy shopping in Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok the most. Tsim Sha Tsui generally has a larger selection of more expensive products than Mong Kok. As I have said before, where I go to buy things depends on what I'm looking for. To help facilitate you in searching for the right places to buy the things you want here is a table:
