When to visit Hong Kong?
Best time to visit Hong Kong
I think the best time to visit Hong Kong is during Christmas. The climate is just right during this time of year. The general atmosphere is cheerful and relaxing and everyone is in the Christmas spirit. During this time, the entire city is decorate
d with beautiful lights and colors. Entire buildings all over the financial districts and major shopping centers glow like rainbow at night. Walking in Tsim Sha Tsui looking across the harbour at the beautiful lights with a cool breeze blowing across yo
ur face as you hold onto the hands of your boyfriend/girlfriend can be very romantic. Christmas is also the best time to shop. This is the only time of the year when all the shopping centers have in stock the latest and coolest products around. The late
st winter fashions can be bought and the variety available is scary. There is even more variety of food available during the winter. Food that are often not served during the warmer months such as "Fou Wou" (a meal where you have a boiling pot in center
of table and a variety of foods you cook while you eat) and "Boi Chai Fan" (rice baked in traditional Chinese pottery with a variety of toppings) makes people want to "live to eat" not "eat to live."
Worst time to visit Hong Kong
Because Hong Kong is near the tropical regions of South East Asia, it can get quite hot during the summer. The humidity then is extremely high and in conjunction with the heat and pollution, it is easy to get sick. Although air condition is availabl
e every where you go (anywhere indoor, taxis, public transport) you still feel sticky just walking down the street. Plus, too much air conditioning can be bad for your health (personal thought). Going into and out of buildings not only fogs up your glas
ses every time, you also really feel the sudden change of temperature. Imagine going into and out of a building ten to fifteen times a day where the temperature changes from 50 degrees F. to 90 degrees F. As you walk along the crowded streets, it gets ev
en hotter and stuffier because of the cars and number of people. Water drips on your head (I hope it is water) because of the thousands of air conditioners above you, attached to the widows on the many tall buildings, are working hard to keep the people
inside cool. Well, in reality, visiting Hong Kong during the summer isn't too bad. Guess you won't believe me after what I just said. It is a fact that visiting Hong Kong during the summer can be uncomfortable if you are not used to that type of enviro
nment, but visiting Hong Kong to me is always fun. Hong Kong is a busy and exciting city year round, there are things going on all the time. During the summer there are the Dragon Boat races and specialty goods available only at that time. For students
like me, the summer offers you enough time to really get to know Hong Kong (Hopefully it will give you a good impression). Students in Hong Kong are busy throughout the year except maybe during the summer and Christmas times. Thus, this would be a good
time to visit if you know any students there.
The Okay times to visit Hong Kong
In my opinion, the best time to visit is Christmas, the worst time is summer, the rest are all okay times to visit this city. The weather is acceptable and this is the time when most stores have sales. During February, the lunar New Year starts and
there is a big celebration. Dragon dances, fire crackers, and red envelopes are all just a part of the traditional celebration. Much of which cannot be easily explained, it can only be experienced. It is all a part of that feeling and atmosphere that m
akes this time of the year special. Before going to Hong Kong, it is remember what the general weather during that season so you can dress and prepare before hand.
