Amir's Photos -- Europe 2001

April 2001
The real reason for taking this trip was to attend the 9th Annual Scientific Meeting of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) which was held in Glasgow, Scotland. I stuck around for about a week afterwards and toured the cloudy, dreary, and bustling country known as London. In between I also had a chance to re-visit Paris. So please, come join us as we embark on yet another trip to expand our cultural horizons.

The itinerary went a little bit like this: SF -> London -> Glasgow -> London -> Paris -> London -> SF.

It's all London baby! Check out our tour guide as he attempts to "reach out and touch someone", except that they don't do that in London (for the slower people, that's because there's no AT&T in England). One corny bit of British tradition visited, two to go: double-decker buses and fish & chips.
These are the lambs I was talking about. On the train ride between London and Glasgow, I saw many farms like this filled with sheeps and lamb. I'd never seen lamb before, so after seeing what they look like for the first time, I decided to give up eating lamb. I've held up on two separate occasions so far...let's see how much longer it lasts.
Here we are in Glasgow in front of King Tut's Wah-Wah Hut, after listening to some live muzac there.

Yours truly, in front of the Scottish Exhibition Centre (a.k.a. The Armadillo), where the week-long conference was held.

Trying to fully get the feel of the British culture, I decided to take a little spin in a car with the steering wheel on the right side. Not only did it feel awkward, but those tiny little cars are useless at protecting you in the event of an accident.

Ah, home again. It was in this very place, the hotel lobby bar, that I spent most of my waking hours. Nothing can beat a peaceful pint of Boddingtons at 3 in the morning.

At the famed Harrod's department store on Knightsbridge. Take a look at our tour guide...Amir: first-class shopper, world-class traveler.

Yet another variation on a well-known theme. As an avid collector of "Absolut" ads, I had to take a pic in front of the Paris metro station from which they based the "Absolut Paris" image.

Back again at you-know-where, but this time in lousy weather.
