Amir's Photos -- Spring Break: Miami

March 2003
What started out as being fed up with the lousy Baltimore weather turned into a last-minute decision to take a roadtrip in search of warm weather. We initially planned on going to South Carolina as our final destination, but immediately after escaping the cold we decided to go all the way...to Miami Beach. One of the most action-packed, fun trips I've ever taken. For more details, go to my Miami Journal Page.

The very start of our trip in Baltimore. Note the crappy weather but the clean bodies.

About an hour past Jacksonville, FL, after having spent the night, in our car, at a truck stop. The clean bodies from before are gone. So what are we doing here in front of some oranges? In this very spot was the Waffle House (the southern fixture) where Amir ate his first ever bowl of grits. Mighty tasty.

On the way down, we drove by the Kennedy Space Center (where all the space shuttles are launched from) and spent an awesome day. Watch Ricky as she floats weightlessly in an orbiting capsule.

Good old Espanola Way. On the right was the hostel we stayed in...pretty, huh? A nice, European-style street in the middle of an historic Spanish district. We found this hostel our first night while walking around. After inquiring about vacancy and being told about our slim chances, we checked again early the next morning, lucked out, and got ourselves...

...this room. Only $50 a night!

In the water, as Ricky tries to drown Amir. Or maybe it was the other way around. I'm not sure.

On the last day of our trip we drove to Key Largo and rode a boat out to go snorkeling. That weird thing sticking out of my body is my left arm.

One of the many cool fishies we saw in the coral reef. Apparently Key Largo is the best place in America to snorkel...

Here you have a photo of the best part of the trip, hands down. In front of me you will find the greatest combination of foods ever to be put together on a plate: black beans, rice, and plantains (banana-like fruits). I had this Cuban meal at least once a day for the duration of the trip. Who knew Cubans had this in them?!

The very end of our odyssey. Quite a sad day.
