Cathy's Forays into the Wonderful World of JavaScript

This is an index of my JavaScript projects. Most of these were created as part of the HTML Writers Guild classes on JavaScript. The scripts from the earlier class work on Netscape 4.5-7. The later scripts work on IE 5. They may all work to some extent on other browsers but those are the only ones that have been tested so far.

For the Intermediate JavaScript Class

• The Final Project
  It's an order form that calculates tax, promotions, running grand total, and makes sure numbers are decimal values. Sep. 2001

For the Beginning JavaScript Class

• Lab Week 1
  This class dealt with experimenting with the document.write and document.writeln commands as well as lastModified. Jan. 1999
• Lab Week 2
  This project dealt with the Date object and some Math operands. It also dealt with while and if statements. Jan. 1999
• Lab Week 3
  This class dealt with event handlers such as mouserollovers, changing the status bar, alerts, confirms, and opening new documents. Jan. 1999
• Lab Week 4
  I made a very basic calculator that can add, subtract, multiply, and divide. It also can reset the values. This lab was the first real attempt at forms. Feb. 1999
• Lab Week 5
  This project uses mouseovers to swap images. The images themselves change, and they also change a shared central image. I also have a form which allows a basic window to be spawned. Feb. 1999

Where shall we eat today?
Despite living and working in France, a country fabled for its wonderful cuisine, the choice of restaurants at La Defense is limited to mall fare (which is no better in France than in the US). In an attempt to make choosing restaurants less stressful and less divisive for my colleagues and me, I developed this random restaurant chooser so that we would not have to eat anywhere more than the laws of probability would dictate. This endeavor used several Math functions, originally a while loop, new document windows, and arrays. NOTE: Feel free to write me with suggestions if you think the logic is flawed and perhaps not truly random. This stuff makes me dizzy....! Feb. 1999
