Suzuhara Toji

Touji the Nonplussed

 Suzuhara Toji is a classmate of the EVA pilots. He is unrefined, tactless, and impulsive; preferring to think with his fists. Underneath the thick layer of machismo, however, Toji is a normal kid who gets along well with almost everyone.

Toji and Aida Kensuke are good friends. When Shinji transfers into their class, a misunderstanding arises between him and Toji. Toji proceeds to beat the crap out of our perpetually-gloomy protagonist. Ironically, our crap-beaten hero saves Toji and Kensuke later during a botched NERV operation. Afterwards, Shinji forms a close friendship with the duo.

Toji, however hard he tries (yeah, right), can't get along with Asuka. They absolutely hate each other's guts!

He gets along "fine" with Rei, though. But doesn't everybody (except Asuka) get along "fine" with Rei?!?
