1. Rachel created a page on Wikipedia about El Machino. Read about how Darth Vader is a big fan.

2. I finally visited the Glendale, CA Chevys while driving from San Diego to the Bay Area, upping my total Chevys count to 64!

3. You may remember that w e met Rachel and her boyfriend Matthew through my web site back in 2000, and now they've become two of our closest friends. She's a big Chevys fan and had mentioned my site on her online diary. She even documented our meeting on her web site. Anyway, she and Matthew got hitched on October 17, 2004. Lila and I were bridesmaids, while Brendan and Mark were groomsmen (no we didn't wear sombreros). Kathy's Shrine to Chevys: bringing people together since 2000.

4. I'm sad to say some of the Chevys I've visited have closed. R.I.P. Chevys in El Cerrito, La Mesa, Ontario, Sunnyvale, Sacramento - South, and San Francisco - 4th & Howard.

4. I'm in the process of revamping the whole site - especially since this was made when I was first learning html. It'll be a lot cooler. I've been drawing lots of neon margarita glasses and cacti. Be sure to revisit in a few weeks.

It's been busy here being obsessed with Chevys!

Chevys! Chevys! Chevys! Fresh Mex Goodness!
So, here's the thing. I am obsessed with Chevys. It's not just me though. There's also my boyfriend, Mark, and my friends, Lila & Brendan. It all started in November 1997 or so (the web site started in March 1998). I'd always liked Chevys--who could resist the seductive charms of the world's greatest salsa with that brown (because of the slightly charred peppers) sheen. And the beans--oh, the beans. I realized that I had been to 11 different Chevys without even trying. It was then that I--lo, we--began trying. My original goal was 50 Chevys by the year 2000,  but I fell a few short. I didn't go out without a fight though - I even visited a new Chevys on December 31, 1999 (shout out to Arlington, VA Chevys!). As of today I have now been to 64 different Chevys in 8 states - California, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Virginia.

I was one of the winners in a contest put on by Web Miles (which has since fallen victim to the tech crash), who was giving away a million frequent flyer miles to whomever had the wackiest itinerary of the trip they would take if awarded the miles. Incidentally, the judge of the contest was the real-life Pudding Guy made famous in the movie "Punch Drunk Love". I submitted an itinerary which included six states with Chevys I hadn't visited (New York, Utah, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, and Louisiana), and was one of six winners. USA Today wrote an article about the contest winners and interviewed me.

With the miles I won from the contest, Mark and I were able to visit New Orleans and New York City for the first time. Often people ask why I visit so many Chevys - don't they all have the same food? Well, Harvey, LA notably was an exception since while at that Chevys I tried gumbo for the first time and was impressed by their Lenten menu of seafood specialties. In New York, we visited what I believe is the largest Chevys in the world in Times Square. We also had fried ice cream at the Clifton, NJ location which I've never seen at another Chevys.

Some time ago, I visited Chevys' headquarters on my birthday and security was called on me. We also participated in Chevys' Bathtub Regatta, and attended lots of openings of new Chevys - including ones in Emeryville, San Francisco - Van Ness, and Livermore (on Mark's and my 4 year anniversary). We also were treated to dinner at the Alameda Chevys by Scott who e-mailed me after seeing this site. He's a marketing guru who includes the Shrine to Chevys as an example in his talks to clients.

My site was named one of Yahoo's Sites of the Year (one of 47). Mark and I were invited to visit the Yahoo web surfers, and we joined them to feast on Chev at San Jose - Winchester and visited the Yahoo offices

The Oakland Tribune quoted me (a glorious pull-out quote) for an article on Chevys. I also found my web site mentioned in the Iranian Times (!). Portal of Evil and Losers dot Org: Losers of the Internet also mentioned my site which is cool because the purpose of their sites is to point out the stupid, pointless sites of the internet. I feel so proud! Truly!

Finally, be sure to check out the CHEVYS NAME GENERATOR that Mark designed! We all have special Chevys names. Kathy a la Charra, GuacaMark, Brenchilada, and Lilameda (named for her favorite Chevys) are ours. Now you can find out yours (or at least try ours out - it's still in an early stage of development). It was able to determine the Chevys names of Candice, Bryan, Rachel, and Ringo the Cat.

The official Chevys site! Pay homage! Check out where Chevys is opening soon!
