Death Valley 2K3

Summer 2000
______________________________________________________________

When Mike offered me the chance to go hike at Yosemite with some of the FV boys, I jumped at the opportunity. Like all experiences at Yosemite, the trip was definitely one of the high lights in the year 2000. We pulled off the trip within three weeks of planning, although there were some mishaps along the trip, they were all sweet memories in the retrospect.

I actually didn't have an idea where Matt were pointing, but at the time I was able to convince Matt and the rest of the gang the peak above WAS Cloud's Rest. So everybody took a picture in the similar pose. We were actually 4~5 hours away from our destination.
The hike to Cloud's Rest wasn't a walk-in-the-park. Although it's not as daunting as Half Dome (18 miles round trip), it is still a 14 mile hike from the entrance of the Sunset camp. The ascend is more than 7000 feet. This is me showing off my amazing acrobatic skills. I bet you I can do this while I'm drunk!

Cloud's Rest is one of the highest point in Yosemite. The top of peak almost reach 10,000 feet. It's not as well known as Yosemite Fall and Half Dome because it's trail head dones't start from the Valley.

Of the three trials (Yosemite Fall, Cloud's Rest, and Half Dome), I like the view from Cloud's Rest the most. From the peak, Cloud's Rest gives quite a different perspective of Half Dome. Check below for some of those amazing photos.

The trip, however, was not without follies, as I mentioned earlier. Couple "mis-calculations:"-- None of us brought a jacket except for Stan, so at night we weren't exactly happy campers. We were also short of firewood, which compounded the problem with the fact most of us didn't have a jacket.

Stan also twisted his ankle on the way down from the peak, and something also happend to Matt at our camp site which I rather not mention. But all in all, this was a great trip. Everybody worked together and helped each other. I haven't seen this kind of team work in years, ever since the tests we took in our economic class back in High School. =P
