I rarely read comic books/strips nowadays. That's more because it's a bit of a pain to go to the store every month to pick stuff up than because of anything else. So when something good shows up here, it's because someone had the kindness to pass it to me.
Thieves & Kings, Mark Oakley
A delightful mix of text and beautiful art, an unconventional story-telling style, and lovable characters. Others have compared it to Hayao Miyazaki's Lupin III: Castle Cagliostro, also about a thief, but while Lupin is zany and clever, Rubel is young and innocent. Thieves & Kings is more like a fairy-tale, and the protagonist of the tale has nothing in mind but serving his princess. I love how sometimes the text would tell you a story that's somewhat related to the wild action that's going on. Reminds me of how sometimes I'd think of something really irrelevant while zipping down a mountain pass.
Highly recommended. Thanks, Paul! I'll have to grab the collections as they come out.
