here were large pendulum-like things, glowing in red, in the distance.

Their masses seemed to slowly expand and contract, like lungs inhaling and exhaling. Slowly. Almost imperceptibly, as they slowly swung back and forth in unison. Something about the slow rate of their swinging seemed unnatural, as if they were subject to a diferent gravitaional pull than myself and the rest of the landscape. I could not see what they were suspended from, as a dark and cloudy haze obscured the sky. These shapes lined the horizon for as far as I could see. I didn't know what they were. But I did not like them.

So I walked the other way, back into the jungle. I walked along the so-overgrown-that-it-really-wasn't-a-path, towards what I hoped might be something recognizable, or at least something warm and dry. I walked for a long time. I was getting very tired, very thirsty. I needed food. And sleep. I desperately needed sleep. But I just kept walking. I was bitten by many things, I didn't know what they were. Some of them drew blood. Some of them just stung and I swelled. Some of them I had to kill. Some of them I had to eat. I walked for a long time. When I thought that my walk might never end, and I was beginning to wonder how much further I'd have the strength to go on for, the path abruptly stopped. The trees that had sheltered my journey to this point stopped, as well. The things that had followed me and nipped at my heels and head and hands stopped their jumping and nipping. Everything stopped.

And I stood there on the edge wondering what would come next I wondered this for a long time. And nothing came next. So I waited. I waited for a long time. And then I got bored, and decided to go back. But when I turned around there was nothing there anymore, either. So I just stood there. Because there was nowhere else to go. I just stood there and looked into everything that no longer surrounded me. And eventually I got bored with that, too.
