Jiffy Lube--other people's stories
I have removed all the personal identities information in the following
stories for the protection of those who e-mailed me the stories.
Story 1
You can't say that all Jiffy Lubes are like that. First of all Jiffy
Lubes are independantly owned and operated franchise's. You may of had
one or two bad experences and some porley managed Jiffy Lubes. Saying
that all Jiffy Lubes are like that, is like saying every Jack in The Box
will give you food poisening. If you can change your own oil great more
power to you. Unfortantly the sad truth is that most people wouldn't
know how to even put oil in their car let alone change it. Jiffy Lube's
service is to these people. Jiffy Lube's goal is not to sell you extra
stuff. It is to keep you 100% maintaind or 100% informed. Simple as
that. They are just informing you that there are other things on your car
that need to be maintained besides just your oil. Every Jiffy Lube has
the manfacture recomended service schedule for every major car
manufacture. When they are telling you about your matienence schedule
they are not trying to "sell you extra stuff" they are simpley
trying to keep 100% informed. Most people don't know that thier car even has
tranmission fluid let alone know that it needs to be serviced on a
regular, manufacture recommend service schedule. When you go into a
Jiffy
Lube and they let you know about this schedule. You can be a moron and
assume that they are just trying to get you to buy extra stuff. Or you
can do what the manufacture recomends you to do in order to keep your car
running. Not following your manufactures matience schedule can and
probably will result in much more costley repairs to your vehicle. Have
you priced an Automatic tranmission latley? Items like air filters,
breathers, and PCV valves are supossed to be replaced when they are dirty
or clogged you can look at it your self when they show it to you and make
your own decision. They are just keeping you 100% informed or 100%
maintained. It will not damage your vehicle to leave a dirty air filter
in it. But it will greatly reduce the preformance and fuel econemy.
My response: Well, I wanted to be fair so I
posted your response to my story. Though I do feel wrongfully
accused (for being called a moron, of course). First of all, I have
never stated anywhere in my story or anywhere on this web site that "all
Jiffy Lubes are like that". Second of all, I have never denied regular
service is good for your car; it just seems the schedules recommended by
Jiffy Lube are more frequent than ones recommended by your car
manafaturer. If anyone's owner's manual states that your car needs
oil change every 3,000 miles, please make me a copy and send it to me--I'd
like to see it.
And lastly, I think you are missing the point--a big complain I had
and many others who have visited my site is the fact that various Jiffy Lubes
(OK, so they are individually operatated and owned. But ultimately,
the coporation is responsible for making sure their franchises are
performing at a certain standards. Did the lady sue the local
McDonald's when the hot coffee got on her laps? No, she sued the
coporation) would charge you for services that were nerver performed.
Thank you for your input, though.
