MCI Worldcom--other people's stories

I have removed all the personal identities information in the following stories for the protection of those who e-mailed me the stories.  Stories are arranged in reverse chronological order.

Story 1
Well, I guess you can add me to the list of unhappy customers.  I was an MCI customer until Feb. 2001.  I decided to shut off my long distance period.  I called MCI and asked if I could still keep my calling card.  I was told yes.  I was also told that it would be .05 a minute as long as I used it from my home or to my home.

I used it a lot.  It got to be a pain, so I called on Mar. 16, 2001 and signed up again.  The same day I found out that my local phone company could give me better rates, so I called MCI back and cancelled the order.   On Mar. 23, 2001 I received another call from MCI saying that they could beat my rates.  He offered me .05 a minute out of state, .07 a minute in state, a $75.00 prepaid calling card, $5.00 towards my switching fee and still the .05 a minute calling card as long as it was from my home or to my home.

I got on with the verifier and she told me the fees, but there were other fees that weren't supposed to be on there, so I told her.  She said she would cancel the order and for me to call back and do it over again because she couldn't change it.  I did that and they didn't have any record of anyone calling me at all.  I told her what I was offered and she said that they didn't have anything like that.  She also told me that my calling card that I'd been using while I didn't have long distance was being charged at $1.25 surcharge and .75 a minute.  I told her that wasn't what I was told and she said then I was told wrong.  She said there wasn't anything she could do about it.  She was the supervisor and she said there was nobody above her for me to talk to about it.

I was furious by this time.  Then she told me that MCI was showing as being my long distance carrier at this time.  I told her no way that I didn't want anything to do with MCI ever!!! I also told her that maybe she should go online and check out all the horror stories about how their ex-customers feel.  I am going to dispute this and call the FCC to see if they might be able to help me.  I just signed up with ACN and they offer me 4.9 a minute state to state, .04 local toll, .05 in state.  My friend has had them for awhile and loves their service, and I can tell you from my short experience with them, that their customer service is great!!   Thank you.
