I received a bill from PT-1 Communications (You can reach their Customer Service at 1-888-660-5377) in August 1999. They indicated that I used their 101-6868 service to place international calls from 7/18/1999 to 7/21/1999. What the hell? I have never even heard of PT-1 Communications or 101-6868.
The fact was, I didn't even have phone service from 7/18/1999 to 7/20/1999. I moved into my new house on 7/19/1999 and the phone service was not activated until 7/20/1999.
I called PT-1 Communications' billing department and requested them to take the charge off. However, they insisted if it shows up in their computer, it means I did place these calls; therefore I was to be fully responsible to pay the full amount. I informed them that it was impossible that I made these calls because I didn't even have phone service during the period and they were more than welcome to verify with my local carrier. They refused and asked me to contact my local carrier myself to request a letter to prove that I really did not have phone service during the period; fax it to PT-1 Communications, then they might consider taking the charges off.
I called my local carrier. They refused to take off the charges for me but they said they would be happy to mail me a letter. I finally got the letter from my local carrier after about a month (by now it was September, 1999). I forwarded it to PT-1 Communications; hoping these charges would disappear on my statement next month.
Three months went by (it was now December, 1999). These charges still appeared on my phone statement. I called PT-1 again, they explained to me since I did have service on 7/21/1999, they couldn't take the charge off. I hung them up and called my local carrier this time and re-explained the whole situation to the service rep again. This time, the local carrier was nice enough to take off the long distance charges off my bill.
So PT-1 Communications never did take off the charges for me. We ought to put companines like these out of business. Boycott 101-6868!
Update (1/6/2001): I received an email from a
fellow surfer who also had bad experience with PT-1:
"Hi--we just
received a bill from PT-1 Communications for calls made in the year 2000 for
a number of ours that was in a house we moved out of in 1998 that was
disconnected in 1998."
I seem to see a pattern in PT-1's scheme, don't you?
Update 2: According to the State of Iowa, PT-1 filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in the District of New York. It is also transfering all its long distance customers to a company called TTI National, Inc, which is a subsidiary of WorldCom, Inc. As you know, WorldCom is in bankruptcy protection itself. If you have read my MCI WorldCom page, you will also know MCI WorldCom is a big scammer too. I guess both companies got what they deserved.
