Some people like to ask questions. Here are a few...
The short story is that it's a nickname I've had since 1984. Someday I'll share the long version.
Despite any rumors to the contary, and the fact that it took seven years, I graduated from The University of California, Berkeley (The Greatest University in the World) in 1990. Because I graduated, I'm now a life member of the California Alumni Association. Since then I have kept close ties to the campus and I currently help administer the Go Bears Mailing List. I have an account with the CSUA because I was once an officer. In addition, I still show up at several events sponsored by the University of California Rally Committee, because I was a member while I was a student.
I'm now a Software Consultant at EMC. Though I'm based in the South San Francisco office, I spend a lot of time visiting customers. As a relief from my day to day job, I also write stories about my adventures and memories, though I haven't written much recently.
I've lived in the San Francisco Bay Area all of my life, and some of the reasons I've never felt like leaving include the weather, the restaurants, the music (check out The List), and the sports.
In addition, the Bay Area has influenced some of my favorite comic strips. Farley and Zippy the Pinhead had their origins in San Francisco Newspapers. Scott Adams, the creator of Dilbert lives and worked in the East Bay. Shin Kao, who has a strip called Corporate City did the comic strip Winner Takes All while I was at Cal. Though now living in Austin, Texas, Shannon Wheeler, whose Too Much Coffee Man once appeared in advertisements for Converse, had a strip called Tooth and Justice in the Daily Cal at one time. Even though it's not a Bay Area product, Helen, Sweetheart of the Internet is also a pretty cool strip.
Even though I live in the Bay Area, I do enjoy visiting places (in the real world, not just the virtual). One place I often visit is Arizona and I usually fly Southwest Airlines.
I also enjoy listening to the radio, and one my favorite radio shows is West Coast Live which maybe on favorite public radio station. Naturally, I also watch quite a few TV Shows.
Besides watching TV, I do enjoy going to the movies. Given my login name, you can expect that I would be a Star Wars fan, and you're right. I watch other movies as well, and one cool place to watch them is the Parkway Theatre (which is different than the average movie theatre). For movie information in general, there's the Internet Movie Database for old films and Ain't It Cool News for new films.
All of this aside, I do read occasionally. Most often I'll read science fiction (I bet you're surprised) and mysteries. Ever since I was very young, I've been fascinated by science fiction. One of the best places on the net is Chaz Baden's Science Fiction Resource Guide which points to many places for information on science fiction.
Earlier I mentioned that I enjoyed eating at Bay Area restaurants. I also enjoy drinking various liquids. My favorite libations are coffee (I prefer to drink Peet's Coffee), beer, scotch whisky, and mixed drinks. When I want to drink, one of my favorite places is the Marin Brewing Company.
My hobbies, other than those listed above, include storytelling, photography, and finally Disneyland (though some say Disney is an obsession).
There are some other web pages that you might want to look at.
One of my favorite pages, as an Apple owner, is TidBITS which is a must-read weekly e-zine edited by Adam Engst, author of the Internet Starter Kit for Macintosh.
I've been on the net for over ten years, and two net.gods I've always enjoyed are Chuq Von Rospach and Mike (Vidiot) Brown.
In the "some people NEVER leave the net" department, there's Nomad Labs which is currently working on a project called "The Mircoship".
One other organization which has a good home page is the Electronic Frontier Foundation which has a long guide to using the net.
